Inspiration and success

Ben Smith

360 degree thinking, the AMOSSHE national conference 2017, was an opportunity for reflection and insight as well as sharing strategy and good practice. Enabling student success is at the heart of the Student Services mission, and sometimes it’s important to remind ourselves of what success really means – what it’s like to overcome barriers and gain a sense of personal achievement in spite of the odds.

That’s why it was so refreshing to hear from the inspirational Ben Smith as our final keynote speaker. Ben described how his ambitions as a runner helped him to overcome health challenges and find the strength to respect himself as a person, and reach out to help and inspire others in turn.

Celebrating success – especially when that success is founded on supporting and enabling others – is always important. At our Gala Ball delegates tried their luck at our casino (fun money only!) and found out who won our best tweet, best picture and table picture quizzes. But winners or losers, everyone took the opportunity to enjoy themselves!
